(SINISTER ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYING)
Ye God’s newest single, “Kochari,” feels like the theme to a Lynchian nightmare. The techno-based track (though it seems wrong to simply name it as such) is build upon soundscapes that crawl, filling the void with sustained, brooding notes that hang heavy. In a slow movement, the track builds and covers like a blanket of night, seething with the uncertainty darkness brings.
“Kochari” is the first song off Ye God’s new album The Arcane & Paranormal Earth, out on February 7th. The project, concieved by Antoni Maiovvi, focuses on “creation, destruction and self-cannibalisation, blending sketches, ideas, and even entire compositions into bizarre new forms, stripping away excess to preserve the music’s mood.” Though Ye Gods have taken on many iterations over the years, one sentiment remains the same: a commitment to innovation and individuality.
The video for “Kochari” was filmed on the infamous Velvet Street—reputedly the most haunted road in Connecticut—one misty morning. Juxtaposed with the abstraction of synthesized visuals, the daunting atmosphere of the music is complete. The eerie stretch of road winds on for miles as abstract images (created with custom software built by Maiovvi) jarringly interrupt its solemnity.
