Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride, the duo behind Xeno & Oaklander, once again showcase their unmatched prowess in formulating innovative and stylish songs and creating dynamic soundscapes as masters of icy synth-pop and minimal electronics genre. As stalwarts of Brooklyn’s analogue synth community, they have played an instrumental role in revitalizing the dark dance and synth wave movements across the United States. It’s difficult to overstate the magnitude of their contribution, and their accolades are well-deserved
Their latest single, Magic of the Manifold, is their first release since the 2021 album Vi/deo. This track is a moody, driving piece of dance pop, structured as a duet that seamlessly fits both the digital expanse of cyberspace and the intimate vibe of an underground nightclub.
“…We created hard hitting drums set against romantic vocals and analogue synth harmonies: we muse over the enchantment of a fictitious Mercury cavern where fumes and steam alter the mind and spark the imagination,” says the band.
In the mystical realms of magick, the concept of a “manifold” holds metaphorical significance, illustrating the universe’s intricate and interconnected nature. Often utilized in occult practices, it symbolizes the network of dimensions and planes that practitioners believe they can access and manipulate. This concept serves as a potent tool in rituals and meditative practices, aiding in the visualization and manipulation of complex energy systems that followers of magick navigate. The manifold embodies transformational paths of spiritual ascension and the layered interactions of cosmic forces, thus deeply enriching the esoteric landscape with a multifaceted framework for understanding and engaging with the supernatural.
Magic of the Manifold paints a haunting, industrial tableau set within a silo, where air and colors undergo mysterious transformations. It explores a surreal blend of mechanical and supernatural elements, delving into themes of entrapment and the invisible forces at play. Ghostly presences and shifting emotions pervade the confined space, creating imagery that is stark and elemental, evoking a sense of profound isolation and eerie unrest.
