Wire Debut “Cactused” from New Album “Mind Hive” Due Out in the New Year

Post-punk innovators and stalwarts WIRE have announced the details of their seventeenth studio album Mind Hive, set for release at the beginning of 2020 via the band’s ownpinkflag.

Colin Newman and Co, ahead of the album’s release, which will see the band touring the UK and North America in support, have debuted Mind Hive’s lead single “Cactused”.

The song buzzes bright with its almost tranquil and idyllic synths overlaid with Colin’s Newman’s optimistic vocal delivery. The effect is soothing, yet perhaps betraying the cautionary nature of the lyrical content—augmented aptly by bassist Graham Lewis’s almost childlike dare expressed in the backings vocals, altogether carried along by Mathew Simms plodding energetic guitars.

“Cactused” also is accompanied by a video that uses footage shot by Graham Duff for the forthcoming Wire documentary, People In A Film (More info here on the documentary here).

Watch the video below:

Last year, our editor Frank Deserto spoke with Wire Frontman Colin Newman regarding his 40-year career, which touched upon the plan to record and tour in support of Mindhive in early 2020, which has been more or less achieved on schedule in an attempt to buffer the distance between 2017’s critically acclaimed Silver/Lead, and the re-issue campaign of classic Wire releases.

Mind Hive will be released on January 24th, 2020.
