Whiner Premiere Scathing New Single “Fear”

New Jersey five-piece Whiner were one of our favorite new discoveries of 2019 with their single “Panic Room” and You Never Have to Feel This Way Ever Again EP. While the world has been through hell and back in the last year, the band have been preparing their next release, a full length LP aptly titled Peace Out Cruel World. With that in mind, we’re honored to premiere lead single “Fear.”, Listen below:

“Fear” begins with a throbbing bass line and Madchester-esque dance beat, peppered with a minimal, scraping guitar line and a moody croon. The tension builds until the chorus, which explodes into a thunderous roar of descending guitar riffs and feedback squalls that call The Stooges, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and even more “recent” post-punk revival bands such as The Walkmen or The Stills to mind, full of bite and bark and intention. It’s a commanding listen, yet just as suited for future dance floors, equal parts catchy as it is cacophonous.

Vocalist Cameron J. Castan offers a few words about the track:
Lyrically the song touches on the idea that we undoubtedly will all face some sort of plight, hardship, depression, or whatever at one point in our lives. I think many people feel like they are stuck in a prison of their own feelings and struggle to get out of their own way. “Fear” is a a song about accepting the consequences of your own actions and mistakes and finding whatever it is inside you to eventually face them…

While there is no official release date slated for Peace Out Cruel World, the album should drop sometime in the coming months, with a second single to follow in a few weeks time. Otherwise, “Fear” will be available at the stroke of midnight tonight, available to stream and purchase through Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, and other channels. In the interim, check out the cover art below and be sure to give the single a spin or three as you prepare for the days ahead…
