Watch Vision Video’s Heart-Wrenching Opus to Death With “Beautiful Day To Die”

So draw your breath and say goodbye,
it’s such a beautiful day to die.

Awash in white and greenery, the Athens, Georgia-based band, Vision Video, premiere their music video “Beautiful Day To Die.” The song is from the upcoming LP, Haunted Hours, that will be out on October 11th of this year as a follow-up to their wildly successful 2021 debut album, Inked In Red. With Haunted Hours, leader of the band, Dusty Gannon, recognizes the necessity of light amidst the darkness. The communal power of music and its ability to heal is profound and necessary during times of tumult—this recognition is found in “Beautiful Day To Die.”

Gannon explains: “I wrote this track about my experiences as a paramedic and firefighter seeing a lot of death first hand, and how you become well acquainted with it in a very surreal, yet comfortable way. It’s about how I had to become friends with the concept of mortality because I was around it so regularly. The shock of seeing bodies becomes more pedestrian, and you’re even able to see beauty in some situations; like when families come together over loss, or the stories people will tell you about the deceased. This song is about celebrating the frailty of life. We do not get to decide how, or when we will die, but it is all the while certain. While that can be somewhat existential-dread inducing, I like to think of it as a clarion call to appreciate what time we are afforded.”

The video is full of whimsy and charm, not far from the lovable music videos of The Cure’s “High” or “Friday I’m In Love.” Cloaked in white outfits, the band sway and saunter under shady trees and pose amidst green fields… quite opposite of what someone might coin as “goth.” However, with a smattering of skulls, red wine, and a coffin, the dark touch is found throughout. Watch the video below:

You might recognize Gannon as the internet’s “Goth Dad,” a personae that found popularity during the pandemic as a place for “baby bats” (a term for those who are new to the goth subculture) to learn about goth music, style, and makeup in a fun, inclusive manner. Much of Vision Video’s success is because of the passion and love from the upcoming generation of goths that Gannon has found via social media. Catch them on tour on the East Coast this summer.
