The newest single by French artist, Sydney Valette, is both heart-wrenching and joyous. “Adieu”—part of an EP that includes song edits and remixes—is a rave-infused melancholic track. With a danceable beat and synth lines that surge through the track like a pulse, Valette’s vocals (at first in French then change over to English) fit alongside the moody temperament of “Adieu”‘s beat. Forlorn, but somehow hopeful, the song is a testament to perseverance.
As a cinematic ghost story, the music video for “Adieu” takes places in a mystical forest, the kind found only in fairytales. Martha (Rose Walls), whose heart was struck by lightning, remains with Lucy (Laïka Blanc-Francart) in order to console the broken-hearted through her grief. Nature’s elements seem to bridge between the veil of both worlds, allowing the two to say their sorrowful parting goodbyes—perhaps a consolation to the mourning of a lost love.
Pick up the Adieu EP via Bandcamp. Valette will also be touring with She Past Away this fall + appear at Absolution Fest in Florida.
