Watch Los Angeles New Wave Outfit Deux Nomiz Cover “I Will Follow You”

Some people present their significant others with flowers or chocolates; married tag-team band, Deux Nomiz, got creative and sent a valentine to the world with their dreamy No-wave cover of Peggy March’s 1950s classic, “I Will Follow You.”

In the spirit of Lizzy Mercier Descloux, The Flying Lizards, the B-52s, the Plastics, Indochine, and Devo, the Los Angeles band spin a unique sound with their own effect pedals and atomic costumes inspired by ’80s does 50s.’ The end result is reminiscent of retro Nuggets garage rock fuzz, unique sample pads, and a hefty spray of pure E-Z Cheez on a Ritz.

Soft Cell’s cover of Gloria Jones’ “Tainted Love” sparked the inspiration for the band, by way of  The Kinks, Duane Eddy, Billy Childish, and doo-wop vocals.

“We felt that this song always had the perfect hidden potential for an 80’s synth ballad cover,” says Deux Nomiz. “We wanted to do an 80s take of it using all original instruments from that period: a legendary Juno synth-bass and Jupiter strings, keeping the classical retro-rock roots…The song was recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely in analogue onto 2″ tape at Loantaka Studio to make it sound as time-appropriate as possible.”

To keep with the classic Americana theme, the band then bent time even further with their music video, using their authentic 1960s broadcast camera. The resulting film, in grainy black and white, was inspired by Glenn O’Brien’s classic NYC public access freak show TV PARTY, as well as Peter Ivers’ New Wave Theatre. The result is charming and funny; a goofy balm for the winter blues with its chaotic spirit and good nature.

Bring it on.
