Watch Beck Cover This Mortal Coil’s Version of the Colourbox Track “Tarantula” along with Bat For Lashes, Feist, Alex Lilly, and more!

“But when the thunder breaks, it breaks for you and me”

Last night Beck, backed by the LA Philharmonic covered the This Mortal Coil version of the Colourbox Track “Tarantula”.

The touching rendition of the 4AD classic was performed on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”

Originally, Colourbox released the languid reggae inspired synthpop track “Tarantula” in 1982, and 1983, with two different versions issued. The first featuring original singer Debian Curry, and the second with Lorita Grahame.

Label founder Ivo Watts Russell would then reinterpret the song with a string arrangement for his musical collaborative project This Mortal Coil’s second LP Filigree & Shadow (1986), featuring the vocal talents of Dominic Appleton of Breathless, and Deirdre and Louise Rutkowski.

Beck’s version of the song, featured on the record Music Inspired by the Film ROMA, was introduced alongside the film’s director Alfonso Cuarón. The performance also featured the talents of Feist, Bat for Lashes, Inara George, Alex Lilly, and Gustavo Dudamel, with Nine Inch Nails percussionist Ilan Rubin on drums, as well as the LA Philharmonic.

Watch Below:

Note that Alfonso Cuarón is the man who gave The Stones Roses Ian Brown a clever cameo in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Music Inspired by the Film ROMA is set for release on Friday, February 8th. The record also includes contributions from Patti Smith, El-P, Billie Eilish, Ibeyi, and more.
