Watch an assortment of documentaries on The Smiths

Manchester heroes The Smiths were one of the most prolific and critically acclaimed post-punk bands, setting the template for indie-rock for decades to come. despite this—not unlike their local contemporaries Joy Division—the band had only been in existence for less than 5 years, disbanding before their final album Strangeways Here We Come could be released.

Above is the contentious Granada Television production of the These Things Take Time documentary, which features previously unseen performance and behind-the-scenes footage— and interviews with Mike Joyce, Andy Rourke, Sandie Shaw, John Peel, Stephen Street and many others.

Next up is the Inside The Smiths documentary, a stylish and once again Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke perspective on the history of the band started by Morrissey and Marr—featuring interview with Pete Shelley, and Peter Hook.

Next is 1992 press video commissioned by the label.

and here is the segment on The Smiths from The Rough Trade documentary

And to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the single Hand In Glove, here is a 30 min program on the legacy of The Smiths titled: The Smiths Not Like Any Other Love from BBC 2’s The Culture Show

and finally an eight minute feature where we see The Smiths and Stephen Street in the studio putting the finishing touches on their album Meat is Murder
