Watch a full Cinema Strange concert from Wave Gotik Treffen! | 2016 Festival Recap and 2017 Preview

The insurmountable Wave Gotik Treffen is upon us again. From June 2nd to the 5th, thousands upon thousands of black-clad fans will assemble to Leipzig, Germany for the world’s best and biggest goth festival. If this year’s festivities are anything near to the glorious 25th anniversary of last year’s WGT packed full of goth, post-punk, industrial, EBM and electronic acts, start planning out your timetables now!

Last year brought a variety of classic acts (as WGT often does) which included a powerful Peter Murphy performance playing an all-Bauhaus set:

An amazing show by John Lydon and PiL:

The ever-intense And Also the Trees (Read Lucas Lanthier’s interview with Simon Jones Here):

Cinema Strange (watch the full show!):

This concert was a family reunion of sorts—see our intimate post-gig photo gallery with some hardcore green cucumber action:

And The Mary Onettes:

So what’s in store for this year? First up, goth’s very special Sex Gang Children will be performing with the original line-up (a rarity these days) and believe you me, it’s a spectacular show. Andi Sexgang will also play an acoustic set for those of you who can’t get enough.

Goth gods The Mission will cause hysteria for sure.

A pleasant surprise of this year’s line =up was B-Movie, the early 1980s synth band who put out the hit “Nowhere Girl”.

For industrial fans like myself, this year’s list is golden (as it was last year with Test Dept and Esplendor Geometrico). With the likes of legends Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire and the Revolting Cocks, WGT is incomparable to any other festival – industrial or otherwise.

Other standout industrial/EBM-infused acts included this year are Varg, Blac Kolor and Codex Empire.

Some of our favorite post-punk bands such as Lebanon Hanover, Sixth June and She Past Away will perform live along with wonderfully gloomy new(er)comers Drab Majesty and The Agnes Circle.

So if that’s not enough to convince you Wave Gotik Treffen is the only place to be come early June, check out the full line up here.

Advance Tickets to Wave Gotik Treffen 2017 are available until Tuesday May 16th.

(tickets will be available upon arrival at the festival as well)
