Validation, so dumb for making a scene
Validation, lipstick all over my jeans
Validation, kissing booth made for trees
Validation, validation
There is a sorrow that slinks in the space between need and knowing. People often mistake the applause for affection, the gaze for grace, the nod for a touch that never comes. They chase the echo of love, not its essence, kneeling before the brief balm of approval, hollow as a drum. Validation is a counterfeit communion: it fills the room, but never the soul. It flatters, it flatlines. Love, when true, is quiet and unspectacular, like sunlight on old wood. But oh, how loud the hunger for affirmation can be. And how lonely the echo afterward.
Miami’s Astari Nite tackle this heartbreaking desire with Ms. Rain On My Parade, a decadent dose of glitter and gloom, where glam-rock flash waltzes with funeral dirge, and romance gets dressed for a séance beneath flickering club lights. A jaded ode to emotional disarray, the lyrics spiral through sarcasm and sorrow, poking at the futility of validation in a world built on performative connection. Romantic wreckage, chemical escapes, and artificial affection collide. It’s a bitter kiss-off to forced happiness: trading sunshine for storms, pills for peace, and empty gestures for a darker, more honest embrace of discontent. The song is reminiscent of Placebo, Peter Murphy, The Damned, Cold Cave, and Modern English with its dramatic baritone vocals and gothic oeuvre.
“Validation is not love, and some people are confused by the two,” says vocalist Mychael. “It’s unfortunate how many live their lives, yearning for that certain approval by others. This world can be very dishonest if you allow it to be and the longer you continue to dive into someone else’s sea of lies, you’ll always be alone, with your telephone, and all four walls of the room.”
