U2 | The Joshua Tree

On March 9th, 1987 U2 released their fifth studio album The Joshua Tree, arguably their last record retaining the post-punk sound that began with the release of Boy seven years earlier.

The album takes its name from the national park by the Mojave Desert in California.

On the first side of The Joshua Tree, the album begins with back-to-back singles, the first of which is “With or Without You”, which would go on to be U2’s most popular song out of their entire catalog.

“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”

and “Where the Streets Have No Name”

On Side two the sound of the Irish post-punk band starts to diverge with the singles “In God’s Country”, and “One Tree Hill”, paving the way for the Americana explored on their Studio and live LP and Documentary Rattle and Hum.

Tracklist:

Side One

1. “Where the Streets Have No Name”
2. “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”
3. “With or Without You”
4. “Bullet the Blue Sky”
5. “Running to Stand Still”

Side Two
