Twin Tribes Host a Gothic Masquerade in Their Spellbinding Video for “Cauldron of Thorns”

Time is but a glance
Passed us by, swiftly, in a trance
But this moment never dies
If you ask me now, it’s enough

Following their meteoric rise in recent years, driven by the shadowy allure of their debut album Shadows and the pulsing resonance of its followup Ceremony, Twin Tribes now return with a brooding, bittersweet gift. Their new video for “Cauldron of Thorns,” a spellbinding offering from their latest album, Pendulum, drips with gothic romance, blending the baroque and the melancholic into an intoxicating experience. It’s as though each note conjures a rose, not delicately plucked but torn free, thorns and all, as the band digs deeper into themes of love, torment, and desire.

The band, revered for their deep exploration of darkness and yearning, delves further into those shadows with Pendulum, unearthing a sensual mix of romance and ruin. Where earlier works flirted with these themes, this latest release embraces them entirely, exploring a more visceral, raw connection to human emotion.

The lyrics of Cauldron of Thorns stir with the bittersweet ache of fleeting intimacy, where time itself drifts like a whisper. In the tender, transient moments of romance, the speaker finds solace, grasping for a beauty that lingers even as it slips away. There’s a delicate dance between longing and fulfillment, as they embrace the fragile wonder of love, knowing that its power, though fleeting, answers unspoken prayers amidst the thorns of life.

The music video, directed by Sultan Mars, and starring Trinity Woodward, channels the timeless themes of temptation and surrender seen in Labyrinth and Phantom of the Opera. A young woman, lost in the opulence of a masquerade ball, is irresistibly drawn to its mysterious hosts. It’s a world where elegance conceals danger, every glance a tantalizing secret, every whispered promise a forbidden fruit. Bathed in soft, dreamlike light, the setting evokes a place spun from fantasy, but as she moves deeper into the labyrinth of desire, the line between fantasy and nightmare fades. Much like Sarah’s seduction by Jareth in Labyrinth or Christine’s fateful entanglement with the Phantom, her steps lead her toward unraveling the hidden truths beneath the masks—where beauty and danger entwine, and desire, once stirred, can never truly be contained.

Following the release of Ceremony and an exhaustive four-year tour across the U.S., Twin Tribes found solace in the sweltering summer of 2023, retreating to the studio to breathe life into their much-anticipated third album.

The fiery intensity of those recording sessions pulses through every beat of Pendulum, an album where contrasting forces collide yet expertly find equilibrium. Their commitment to unraveling life’s dualities—pain and pleasure, light and darkness—shines through as they ascend, all while bearing the weight of their past creations, fueled by the same passion that sparked their journey.

Pendulum explores the human heart’s eternal pull between opposing forces, mirroring the rhythmic ebb and flow of the ocean’s tides. Each chapter of the album speaks to life’s inevitable oscillation, where every rise carries the burden of a fall. It meditates on the delicate dance of existence, where joy intertwines with sorrow and peace mingles with turmoil. Just as the tides rise and recede, so too does the pendulum swing from light to dark, capturing the restless pulse of our lives.

Released through Beso De Muerte Records in North America and Young & Cold Records elsewhere, Pendulum delves deep into the soul’s unceasing sway, embracing the contradictions that unite us. It pulls listeners into a world where every high is shadowed by a low, revealing that true harmony exists in the balance of extremes. This album transcends mere melody—it’s a vivid reflection of life itself, an exploration of the forces propelling us forward, swaying between love and loss, light and dark, never static, always swinging.
