Toronto trio WHIMM are premiering with us today the video for Second Sound, a track from their debut album A Stare Ajar. The album was produced by Dean Tzenos from Odonis Odonis at Toronto studio Union Sound with violin, piano, and cello from guest musicians such as Anna Mayberry (HSY / Anamai). The albums poetic lyrics draws on singer Mounir Chami’s experiences as a Palestinian living in Canada while feeling split between worlds.
The video for Second Sound is inspired by the Kuleshov effect—a psychological phenomenon by which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots rather than a single shot in isolation.
Featured in the video are appearances from members of Toronto bands like Jude and Anna from HSY, Jimmy Tony from Dilly Dally, Patrick Flegel of Women/Cindy Lee, and April and Dan from Hooded Fang, along with black & white 35mm photos shot by WHIMM in Toronto, Beirut, and Amman.
A Stare Ajar is out on Pleasence Records on October 27th
