Toronto post-punk outfit Shallow Waves continue to foray into a dark, fuzzy world of noise. Taking their cues from contemporary bands like Metz, Idles, Girl Band, as well as Toronto’s underground psych scene, their latest EP, entitled “Skin”, is a dark and tactile descent into a bottomless caustic cacophony of static and feedback.
The noise-infused track is a barrage of dystopian imagery building over blistering and emotive vocals and metallic sounds. Opening with the wild cacophony of the title track “Skin”, the listener is bombarded with intense percussion and fierce lyrics. “Receive/Transmit” is wrapped in a fuzz-laden garage sound with heavy psychedelic influences. A little bit No Wave, a little bit 60s garage, a little bit 90s alternative, the track is hypnotic and ferocious.
