Toronto’s internationally acclaimed TRAITRS return with their first new material since 2021’s Horses in the Abattoir, unveiling the seraphic new single Burn In Heaven. Released on September 26, 2025, the track heralds a new beginning, serving as the lead single from their forthcoming full-length album, Possessor. Earlier this year, the duo also revisited their past with a special vinyl edition of the fan-favorite “Thin Flesh”, paired with the long-unheard “Factory Father.” But “Burn In Heaven” marks the band’s first completely new song since Horses in the Abattoir, a milestone that underscores just how much their sound has grown more potent and unmistakably mature—proof that their time away from the studio has been anything but idle.
Burn In Heaven is soaring and elegiac, burning with fiery passion and solemn exaltation. The guitars churn along, augmenting the somber melody and dynamic vocals that are both solemn and yearning, evoking a sound that lies somewhere between Brett Anderson and Robert Smith, while delivering lyrics poised between anguish and grandeur. The result is a song that feels at once sacred and hedonistic—a dance party in a cathedral—where shadows move in step with light. Live or in studio, like the entirety of TRAITRS’ catalog, Burn In Heaven never loses its potency—its impact remains undiluted, a testament to the band’s ability to channel raw emotion into anthems that feel both intimate and vast.
The single’s artwork draws from cinema and theatre history, featuring a stark black-and-white still of Isabelle Adjani in her role in The House of Bernarda Alba. The choice is fitting: Adjani’s haunting gaze and the austere, shadow-drenched setting amplify the song’s tension between sanctity and suffering. Much like “Burn In Heaven” itself, the image feels both sacred and forbidden—an echo of gothic devotion and unquiet desire.
Order Burn In Heaven, backed with the B-side This Sick Kiss, on 7” and CD via Bandcamp.
