Producer Brian Fox and Nadia Garofalo found their rhythm in chaos, carving songs from the sharp edges of experimental synths and defiant poetry. This partnership ignited in early 2023, with Garofalo’s exit from Ganser leaving room for Fox’s provocative vision. Together as KAPUT, they embraced deliberate disorder, creating music that balances raw energy with bold irreverence.
KAPUT’s new single, Runner, exemplifies their jagged alchemy. Frantic percussion barrels forward, a relentless force paired with a bassline built for movement. Garofalo’s vocals cut through with a matter-of-fact delivery, her words biting at the grind of modern work culture and the suffocating weight of impossible expectations. “You’ll run till you’re dead,” she declares as a rallying cry against the relentless churn.
The track’s spoken-word poetry, sped-up reggae-inspired drumming, and sparse piano reverberate with echoes of Sonic Youth’s unruly experimentation, Lydia Lunch’s raw conviction, and the sleek rebellion of Romeo Void. It’s a sound born from frustration but delivered with fierce clarity—a confrontation with chaos that dares listeners to confront their own. Together, Fox and Garofalo dismantle the rules, building something thrilling in its place, unbound and unapologetic.
“It’s something I think everyone experiences in their own way: realizing that you can run yourself into the ground, and it may never be enough because ‘enough’ is something you have to decide for yourself,” muses Garofalo. “I imagine the clarity of a jog down an endless suburban street.”
Looking ahead, KAPUT will release their self-titled debut LP in early 2025. In the meantime, you can listen to Runner at the link below and order the song here.
