The Stranglers | “La Folie”

On November 9th, 1981 The Stranglers released their 6th studio album “La Folie”, a record whose theme was love, oddly enough, and the oddness of such is illustrated by the title track alluding to Japanese cannibal Issei Sagawa, who loved a woman so much he ate her.

The theme of love continues with the masterpiece “Golden Brown”, a waltz that equates love with Heroine, as well as songs such as “Tramp”, and “Let Me Introduce You to the Family”.

Hugh Cornwell’s vocals are magnificent on this record produced by Tony Visconti, however—the hauntingly beautiful title track “La Folie” is sung in French by bassist Jean-Jacques Burnel.
