The Smiths release 7 & 12 inch single versions of the ‘The Queen Is Dead’

UPDATE The ‘Queen is Dead’ has received a single release on the album’s 31st anniversary. (see previous story below)

The 7 inch and 12inch versions of The Queen is Dead single is in UK Records stores today as a limited release.

Following this year’s Record Store Day Boy With The Thorn In His Side 7-inch, which featured previously unreleased demo/alternate versions of The Smiths’ 1985 single and its original B-side, Rubber Ring—rumors had circulated via Morrissey-solo.com that we would see another single release from Manchester band’s third album,  The Queen Is Dead.

Indeed—The Smiths’ title track from the album that came out 31 years ago on June 16th, 1986—is receiving a new 12-inch vinyl single release, along with a 7-inch picture disc. This is according to a Facebook post by longstanding Morrissey guitarist Boz Boorer who posted a photo of himself holding the 12 inch vinyl in it’s sleeve featuring the single’s artwork.

Boorer’s photo caption reads:

Released June 16th at your local HMV on 12″, 7″ etc.

The additional tracks for the 12 inch version of The Queen is Dead single are the instrumental pieces Oscillate Wildly, Money Changes Everything, and The Draize Train—whereas the 7 inch picture disc features I Keep Mine Hidden.

A commenter on Boorer’s Facebook corroborates the release and track listing with his photo of the 12-inch and his picture of the 7-inch

No word on availability on both the 7 inch and 12 inch versions The Queen is Dead single—or whether or not the release will be an HMV exclusive.
