The Smiths nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Following the 32nd anniversary of their first gig last week and after six years of eligibility, The Smiths were nominated today for induction as part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2015 inductees, along with the late Lou Reed and Kraftwerk,

It remains to be seen whether a band such as The Smiths can be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Cure was among the 2012 nominees, but Robert Smith’s immensely popular band was not inducted that year and has not made the ballot since then.

If The Smiths are inducted would most certainly not reunite for such an honor, even if they were inducted. We could probably expect a sharply penned retort via True to You disparaging the whole concept of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
