The Russian White Descends into the Darkness of Underground Nightlife in Their Video for “Funeral Art”

The Russian White is a dark electronic music project from Pennsylvania, known for their distinct “deathwave” sound. The band is currently signed to Distortion Productions. Their music blends post-punk, synthwave, witch house, and other underground genres, creating a soundtrack reminiscent of an 80s stalker flick. With electronic beats, haunting atmospheres, shimmering effects, and lush vocals, they weave stories of obsession, beauty, and the unknown. Fans of Health, Crosses, and Nine Inch Nails will find kindred spirits in their sound.

The Russian White unearths the graves with their new video for “Funeral Art,” directed by Texas horror master Jeremy Sumrall. This track serves as the title song from The Russian White’s brand new album, set to be released on October 4th via Distortion Productions.

“Over the past two-plus years, we’ve endured an incredible amount of loss, with ten close friends and family members passing away,” the band reflects. “Loss is inevitable; it’s a part of life. This new song and album explore many of those elements.”

The band teamed up with producer Tim Heireth (Joy Machine, Brand New Idol, The Lonely Death) to craft an album that feels like a dance party in a funeral home.

“Tim helped us balance 90s synthpop hooks with our cinematic soundscapes perfectly. I told him, ‘I wonder what New Order would sound like with a metal singer?’ Eric Broyhill (Deftones, Crosses) then put the final touches on this new batch of songs.”

“When I first approached Jeremy about the video concept, he was immediately on board. The idea was to follow a man who’s lost everything and starts to question what he believes in. We all crave something to believe in, right? Whether it’s religion, cults, vices, or the sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. But what do you hold onto when there’s nothing left to lose? With this theme in mind, we decided to create a mini-movie. So Jeremy flew up to Philly from Houston, and Michael, our keyboard player, picked him up from the airport. We spent four freezing cold days in December shooting this short film. We enlisted actor Bryan Enright, whose credits include Hideout, Mare of Easttown, Hustle, CSI, to play our lead. Despite the cold, our team did an amazing job bringing these ideas to life. Jeremy and Bryan captured our vision perfectly.”

The video opens with a solemn visit to a stark Pennsylvania cemetery before throwing a curveball as the protagonist is thrust into a strange nightlife underworld. Has he stumbled into a wild Penn State basement party or descended into the red-lit metaphors of grief-stricken madness? The band has decided to tell the story of this man’s loss in an episodic format, spanning three parts: Funeral Art, We Disappear, and Milieu. We’re eager to see what happens next.
