I’ll never leave this place. A comfort in disgrace.
It blossoms a new day, but I know it’s not for me
Tennessee darkwave outfit More Is Not Enough serves a potent blend of visceral, heartfelt melodies, serving echoes of Depeche Mode, Tuxedomoon, and Aztec Camera: punctuated synths, ethereal vocal harmonies, and dynamic percussions mark its cadence.
More Is Not Enough was created by ‘metalhead’ Pedro Lopez in 2008, who was looking to try something different with his musical direction – although it soon became a rocky road paved with creative frustrations. Lopez would go back to his metal roots for a few years, then move to Puerto Rico, where he would hold off on music altogether as life got in the way, including starting a family and working for death metal label The Artisan Era. He may have taken a decade off from songwriting, but kept the project in mind. Now a solo project, More Is Not Enough unveils a new darkwave-meets-dream pop single, El Cuerpo (The Body).
The lyrics are raw in their fractured gaze; vulnerability is laid bare; comfort found in the disarray and the familiar grit of despair.
“The song is about building a callous from abuse,” says the artist. “Almost rejoicing in it, but taking that negative energy and turning it into a positive by knowing what you can endure – and keeping in mind to NEVER act in that manner towards others. On the other hand, you chase that negative feeling.”
In a world blurred by turmoil, one finds solace in the familiarity of pain and the dirt that envelops the soul. Facing the solitude of life’s path and the inevitable fate, one grapples with the theme of betrayals. Do those marked by a searing touch, or cold intentions, hold any true value? While dawn ushers in hope, some remain shackled to the shadows, feeling undeserving; trapped by piercing gazes and honeyed deceit. No matter the allure, certain destinies will remain unclaimed.

After a decade-long hiatus, M.I.N.E. emerged with the haunting darkwave/industrial EP “MIDLIFE CHRIST IS…” This offering delves deeply into the raw emotions of loss, addiction, violence, and deceit. Lopez took on the role of soothsayer, warning of nightlife’s pitfalls amidst the fleeting pleasures of dance and self-destruction.
The release of “El Cuerpo” marks yet another new chapter in the musical narrative of M.I.N.E.
