The KVB have a moonage daydream in their hypnotic shoegaze cover of Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”

[dropcap]Nick[/dropcap] and Kat of The KVB are two of the grooviest Brits to live in Berlin, following in the footsteps of the original spaced cadet, the duke of emaciated parlour – David Robert Jones, aka David Bowie. So it’s only natural for them to cover a track from the most stylish chameleon that has ever lived.  However, their choice of “Rebel Rebel” honestly surprised me, as I would have expected a rendition of a track from “Low” but alas – their version is amazing! Alongside The KVB, there are other lo-fi/shoegaze bands displaying their respect to the Thin White Duke by taking over some of his most brilliant songs – with Dum Dum Girls or Electric Six being the most infamous ones, transgressing David Bowie’s songs, some being more known – Space Oddity or Fame – and some remaining rather obscure – Letter To Hermoine, e.g., off his self-titled 1969 debut (Space Oddity in the US).
And the trend continues on the rest of the compilation album, as none of the songs are cut and paste covers but made the tracks a psychedelic, fuzzy cloud emitted by bands that audibly carry David Bowie’s DNA in their veins – and not just on the tracks they contributed for this compilation. Respectfully turning up the amps to eleven and stomping on distortion and reverb pedals, this compilation is very interesting for Bowie fans and Psychedelic/Shoegaze freaks alike.
