The Damned Debut Spy-Noire Themed Video for “You’re Gonna Realise”

This week, punk legends The Damned unveiled their latest sonic offering on the altar with “You’re Gonna Realise.” The single serves as a tantalizing appetizer before the main course of their twelfth studio album, Darkadelic, and a string of electrifying performances in the Golden State. Darkadelic marks the mad bad and dangerous-to-know lads’ first full-length release since 2018’s Evil Spirits.

The Damned, with its formidable roster of Vanian, Sensible, Paul Gray, Monty Oxymoron, and newcomer William Granville-Taylor on drums, will continue to ignite stages across Europe until late April. Following their European conquest, the band will set out on a five-date Californian odyssey in late May, culminating in a spirited performance at the Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Las Vegas.

Although The Damned have been together for nearly five decades, their lustre still shines brightly with the sheen of suave punk rock darkness. Dave Vanian’s vocal stylings exude an unexpected mellowness, while the instrumentation radiates with effervescent and uplifting tones.

The film noir-inspired music video follows several enigmatic ladies wandering the dark alleys of London as a shadowy figure – and an ominous spy blimp – follows their every move. Adorned in espionage attire from top to bottom, the band members make intermittent appearances throughout the visual narrative. The bewitching visuals accompanying the new single were helmed by Martin Gooch, who also lent his directorial flair to previous tracks “The Invisible Man” and “Beware of the Clown.”

Who’s got control of that mysterious film reel? And what, pray tell, is on it? Hop on the running board of your Daimler and find out.

Darkadelic, a Thomas Mitchener-crafted opus, will see the light of day via earMUSIC on April 28, in CD, vinyl, and digital incarnations, with pre-orders now open here.
