The Cure’s Robert Smith, no stranger to charity events, performed the Seventeen Seconds album tracks “In Your House,” “M”, and “Play for Today” live for the Robin Ince-hosted “Nine Lessons and Carols for Curious People” 24-hour livestream.
The songs, which celebrated their 40th anniversary earlier this year, were included for prerecorded performance broadcast on Saturday, December 12th. During the set Smith, sans shoes and band, performed the songs solo, backed by only a drum machine, from what appears to be his home studio.
The event premiered via the Cosmic Shambles Network where viewers were encouraged to donate to Nine Lessons, with proceeds being distributed to four charities: Turn2Us, Doctors Without Borders, Mind, and the Kings Place Music Foundation.
