The Cure to Release New Compilation “Torn Down” and a Reissue of “Mixed Up” for This Year’s Record Store Day

UPDATE: Both Mixed Up and Torn Down confirmed to be released as 2 LP editions of 7000 copies each, with Torn Down being issued as picture discs.

Good news Cure fans! Our friends at long running fan site Chain of Flowers have pointed out that French Amazon listings have appeared— for the upcoming Record Store Day releases, which are are set to be revealed on March 6th

The pre-sale listings are for 2 LP vinyl editions of The Cure’s 1990 remix compilation Mixed Up and a new compilation Torn Down. Both are to be issued via Universal Music, and have appeared on Amazon France and also on Amazon Spain.

Torn Down: Mixed Up Extras 2018 is seemingly the long promised sequel to Mixed Up that Cure frontman Robert Smith mentioned as far back as 2009—with the then announcement of the Disintegration deluxe edition:

“There will be a lot more remastered Cure stuff in 2010… including Mixed Up 2… as well as The Cure @ The BBC box set… ‘In Orange’ and ‘Show’ on DVD… and…”

As stated above, the long promised “Mixed Up 2” was listed as being in the works for nearly a decade now, along with several other projects fans have eagerly been anticipating but have yet to be released.

Talk of a Mixed Up 2 resurfaced in July of 2012, where Smith addressed the compilation, stating:

“There will be a Mixed Up 2 album coming out, probably this side of Christmas. Mixed Up 2. I’ve given songs to groups I really love, like Mogwai, Cranes and some other people. I thought the best thing to do would be to have some new remasters, but rather than by producers, I think that having groups that you love remix your songs is a much more interesting idea than producers remixing your songs. So Mixed Up 2 will be our favorite bands remixing Cure songs. It’s good. It’ll be this Christmas. Mogwai are doing ‘Faith.’ So good. It’ll be really good. Cure fans will love it.”

The remix of Faith by Mogwai was at the time confirmed by the band, but is not featured on the tracklisting for Torn Down: Mixed Up Extras 2018, which instead features that album’s track The Drowning Man among a selection of 16 tracks in total listed in chronological order.

Each of the 4 sides side features 1 song each from every Cure album up until 4:13 Dream—with the exception of Just One Kiss, Never Enough, and Cut Here, all three being featured as compilation tracks, and the former originally a b-side.

Last year, similar Amazon listings appeared ahead of the announcement of vinyl pressings of The Cure’s Greatest Hits and Acoustic Hits, so it is a fair assumption that Mixed Up and Torn Down are to be released for this year’s Record Store Day, but it is possible that they could come out at a later date.

Meanwhile,  The Cure are set to celebrate their 40th anniversary, with Robert Smith curating this year’s Meltdown festival along with plans for a huge one off anniversary concert this July in London’s Hyde Park and a Tim Pope new documentary on the band.
