The Cure Return to Rock Werchter for a 2019 Festival Appearance

Following the announcement of dates in Florence, Athens, Johannesburg and Dublin, the latter of which was just confirmed at Ireland’s Malahide Castle on June 9th, The Cure have been confirmed to return to the Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium, with their last appearance at the festival being in 2012.

Rock Werchter 2019 takes place from Thursday the 27th of June to Sunday the 30th of June at the Festivalpark in Werchter, with The Cure set to play on Friday June 28th.

Ticket sales starts on Friday 26th of October.

In 1981, The Cure made their debut at the Festival on July 5th 1981, a gig which lives in infamy for infamy due to the outspoken demeanor of bassist Simon Gallup.

The concert had been running late and the organizers were trying to rush The Cure off the stage to make way Robert Palmer—who was on next. However, as we all know now, The Cure like to play as long as possible, so some things never change, and Robert Smith was not having anyone trying to cut his set short.  Instead the band launched into a nearly 9 minute long version of“A Forest”with Simon Gallup shouting “Fuck Robert Palmer! Fuck Rock & Roll” as the band left the stage.

Since 2008, Rock Werchter has added a small version of Rock Werchter on the central square of Arras, in northern France called the Main Square festival. Usually bands are offered a chance to play both festival, but at this time The Cure have yet to be confirmed for Main Square, which occurs on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of July.
