The Cure are apparently releasing ‘Greatest Hits’ and ‘Acoustic Hits’ vinyl picture discs for Record Store Day

For this year’s Record Store Day The Cure appear to be releasing a pair of remastered vinyl picture-disc reissues. The records are 2001’s Greatest Hits compilation and a standalone issue of the Acoustic Hits disc that was included as a bonus disc in early pressings of the CD version of the Greatest Hits comp.

Cure fansite Chain of Flowers noted via Twitter that the product listings for the two releases had made an appearance on Universal Music’s Italian site over the weekend, displaying both of the double-LP vinyl picture discs  labeled “RSD 2017”—due out to be released on April 21st, the day before Record Store Day (which is April 22nd this year).

There have been no official announcements of any Cure-related Record Store Day releases as of yet (We are still holding out hope for that Wish special edition release), and the greatest hits vinyls have since been removed from the list of Cure releases on Universal Music’s Italian site. However, the Acoustic Hits vinyl release is still available for pre-order on Amazon’s Italian site at the writing of this article.

The Cure’s Greatest Hits was their third singles compilation (not including Japanese Whispers) and was their final release on long time label Fiction Records. The compilation collected 16 tracks spanning 18 years—from 1979 to 1997, and adding two additional songs (Cut Here and Just Say Yes). For the bonus acoustic release, Robert Smith and Co. re-recorded stripped down versions of all 18 songs, re-enlisting former drummer Boris Williams to play percussion

*Boris Williams always remained close to the Cure camp, even after departing the band to join his partner Caroline Crawley in her band Shelleyan Orphan.
