The Cure Announce Special 30th Anniversary of “Disintegration” Concerts

The Cure have announced four special live concerts at the Sydney Opera House this May to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their “greatest album ever” Disintegration.

The 1989 album contained some of the band’s biggest hits, included “Love Song”, “Pictures of You”, and Lullaby”, “Fascination Street” as singles, but every track featured on the LP is solid—starting with the album’s dreamlike opener “Plainsong”.

For these concerts, The Cure return to the Sydney Opera House where the band had previously worked with Vivid LIVE during their special Reflections performances of classic albums back in 2011.

During the concerts, The Cure are set to play Disintegration in its entirety plus “a selection of rarely performed B-sides plus specially curated deep catalogue cuts.”

The gigs are on May 24, 25, 27, and 28, but the Sydney Opera House website states that this will be the “world premiere of these 30th-anniversary performances”, promising that for those who can’t make it to Australia for these concerts will not be missing out.

Tickets will be available for purchase through the ballot via Sydney Opera House website where those lucky enough to be selected with be able to purchase tickets next Thursday (February 28).

Meanwhile, in addition to these concerts, The Cure have a busy year, with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction set for March, Festival dates throughout the summer, and a new album on the way—the band’s first in 11 years!

Shortly after the announcement the band would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cure frontman Robert Smith  took to SiriusXM’s radio show Debatable to tell hosts Mark Goodman and Alan Light how he took inspiration for the new album from the lineup he “Curæted” at Meltdown last years:

“Seeing all these new bands—I’ve listened to some of these bands and met so many of them that it’s kind of inspired me to do something new. So, yes, we’re going in about six weeks time to finish off what will be our first album in more than a decade. It’s very exciting times for us all around.”
