Madchester heroes The Charlatans triumphantly concluded their North American co-headlining tour with the iconic shoegaze legends Ride, receiving widespread acclaim from concertgoers and critics alike. During this tour, Tim Burgess and the band stopped at the studios of radio station KEXP while in Seattle on Valentine’s Day to perform a remarkable four-song set.
The Charlatans’ performance at KEXP is now accessible for viewing on YouTube, where fans can now revel in the magic of the live session.
The setlist featured three of The Charlatans’ most celebrated singles, each showcasing the distinct sound that defines the Madchester era. 1990s anthemic hit single “The Only One I Know” demonstrated the band’s ability to combine infectious grooves with memorable melodies, while 1991’s “Weirdo” captivated listeners with its hypnotic train-like rhythms and Burgess’ distinctive vocal delivery. The performance of 1996’s “One to Another” showcased their evolution, blending elements of powerful Britpop with their signature sound.
In addition to these popular singles, the band played “Chewing Gum Weekend,” a lesser-known but equally compelling track from their sophomore album, Between 10th and 11th. The inclusion of this song, alongside “Weirdo,” highlights the group’s commitment to exploring their entire discography, as they played the whole album at each show during the tour.
