Darkwave act Neon Lies make a frenetic synthpunk foray into the tenebrous world of illicit house parties with their video for the track “Drugz”.
The project, Neon Lies, started as a synth-wave bedroom one-man act in late 2015 by Goran Lautar, while he was still singing and playing guitar in Modern Delusion and The Celetoids, prominent bands from Zagreb D.I.Y. punk and post-punk scene gathered around label Doomtown Records.
With this third album, recorded and mixed, as always, directly on tape by the Lautar himself, the aim was to bring together an authentic and intimate disclosure of personal loss and gain, euphoria, happiness, and sadness, in dedication to the kind of loneliness that leads a person to revel themselves into a nebulous oblivion.
The clip for “Drugz”, led into by a long and suspenseful intro into an ambling synth beat, is a retro VHS clip rife with the kind of house party voyeurism where something always seems to be happening just out of Frame.
