Finnish electronic deathrock outfit Carnal Machinery is absorbed in isolation on their icy cold, disturbing new track, Solutudinarian. The solo project of Helsinki-based musician Jacques Saph (formerly of Sleeping Children), Saph is also the frontman of Virgin in Veil, Secular Plague, and the bassist for Masquerade.
Seeking to create a unique sound, Carnal Machinery draws influences from punk and deathrock, employing fully electronic instrumentation to create abrasive and sinister music – a perfect backdrop for Jacques’ anguished, raspy screaming vocals.
The accompanying video, filmed in a dark, empty Helsinki train station, was filmed and edited 100% DIY in March 2021. There is an element of science fiction to this desperate isolation, as Saph thrashes about in the dim lights, alone in agony with his thoughts. The track explodes in an abyss of solitary confinement; a rage that cannot be tamed. Is it his reality, or merely his subconscious?
