Swim in the Vibrant Waves of Morte Psíquica’s “Labirinto”

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been championing several French-Canadian post-punk artists, all of which have announced new albums in 2020. A veritable hotbed of activity, we’re delighted to see so much amazing music pouring from the region. With that in mind, we’re honored to premiere the latest video from Morte Psíquica, plucked from the project’s upcoming sophomore release, Suite № Zero. Watch below:

The video, directed by Xarah Dion, is drenched in lavender-colored filters and features Sergio Pereira playing the song’s Chameleons-esque guitar line superimposed over top of moving travel footage. We also see Pereira leaning against the side of a building, singing the song, eventually joined by a striking, but androgynous statue. The video ends with a series of water images, windmills, and other bits of scenic beauty, tying into the track’s vibrant energy.

The track itself is a stunning slice of coldwave perfection, calling Little Nemo’s Sounds in the Attic to mind with its lush guitars, driving percussion, and infectious melodies. Pereira’s vocals, sung strictly in Portuguese, are as luxuriant as the instruments, warm and romantic, with just the right amount of melancholy to keep things grounded.

For those who are unfamiliar with the project, Morte Psíquica’s history dates back to 1993, when three Portuguese musicians began carving out their space in the post-punk spectrum. Though originally a trio, the project became a solo venture for Pereira, who relocated to Montreal in 2018. As such, a new era of Morte Psíquica was born, and new album Suite № Zero will serve as the first LP written and performed entirely by Pereira. The album is due out on April 1st via Zodiaque / Visage Musique. Check below for the full album artwork, track list, and pre-order info below:
