Swedish hauntwave artist aux animaux has unleashed her spooky new single, the eerily hypnotic “Devil Inside.” This will mark the second single from her upcoming EP Hauntology, due for release later this autumn. The first single was “Haunted,” a collaboration with the Malmö darkwave band abu nein.
aux animaux, a self-taught musician, is currently based in Stockholm, but was born and raised in Istanbul. She worked as a professional bass guitarist for several years, but with aux animaux, she sings as well as alternates between bass guitar and theremin (which she considers her “source of sorcery”.)
Further exploring the horror genre and taking inspiration from both films and personal shadow work during pandemic isolation, the lyrics are about confronting one’s inner demons and accepting them. The song was written, produced, and mixed entirely by aux animaux.
The video for “Devil Inside”, directed by Jonas Fransson (Then Comes Silence) and edited by aux animaux, follows a gang of mischievous goths haunting the streets of Stockholm. It features the same gang from the Haunted video: Kim Sollare, Line Jirlén Lindbergh, and Philip Johansson, appearing with masks that were handcrafted by each actor. It’s a fun romp through the wild side.

The mastering was done by Doruk Öztürkcan (She Past Away). A remix of the song made by Italo legend Tobias Bernstrup accompanies the single release.
aux animaux formed in 2017, opening for She Past Away, Hante., and Then Comes Silence. Her debut EP Black Holes had more politically-loaded songs about animal rights, feminism, and the ills of society, whereas her sophomore EP Stockholm Synthrome was more personal, narrating her decade-long struggle with misophonia. In spring of 2022, she released her EP The Hydesville Episode, a more experimental endeavour in the vein of horror soundtracks.
