Chaos is my neighbour, boredom is my housekeeper
Swedish shape-shifter They Owe Us (alias of Kristoffer Ragnstam) barrels back into the fray with Love By The Hour, a bruising, brazen burst lifted from his forthcoming LP, All on RED, slated for release April 25th via Exquisite Feline.
Here, Ragnstam hurls himself headlong into the pandemonium of modern existence; a runaway ride of restless lust, daily disillusionment, and raucous rebellion. Love By The Hour careens between chaos and clarity, fuelled by the clatter of Kristoffer’s cobbled-together drum kit and a bassline that bites like barbed wire. Think Iggy’s hip-snarl, Jagger’s strut, MGMT’s glittering weirdness all wired together with Tame Impala’s kaleidoscopic tilt, but fed through a filter of sharp DIY sensibilities and charming swagger.
Every beat is blunt-force, every lyric spat like a cigarette flicked onto gasoline. Ragnstam doesn’t aim for polish; instead, he conjures controlled collapse, equal parts snarl and seduction. It’s a shot of adrenaline for those staggering beneath the bright lights, hands trembling, looking for love measured not in lifetimes, but by the hour. If this single’s anything to go by, All on RED won’t play it safe. It promises to spit, strut, and sucker punch its way onto dancefloors and dive bars alike.
Gym Jönsson’s video for Love By The Hour is a fun little piece of performance art, zipping between a strange shaving ritual, flashing eyeballs, childhood photos, and pulsing animated hearts. Watch below:
This release marks the final glimpse before the curtain lifts on All on RED—an album that’s far more than a mere collection of songs. It stands as a homage to Kristoffer Ragnstam’s grandfather, a survivor of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution whose zest for life (and penchant for gambling) fuelled the album’s title, borrowed straight from his favorite wager: “All on red.” That same spirit of risk, resilience, and recklessness runs through the record, embracing life’s twists and tumbles without flinching.
Produced in tandem with longtime co-conspirator Klabbe, All on RED rounds out its roster with a formidable cast of collaborators: Truls Mörck of Graveyard, Anton Tuvesson of Fägring, Rickard Hellgren of Spiders, and Andes Rane of Daniel Norgren’s outfit. To keep the edges sharp and the heart intact, mixing duties were handed to Andy D. Park (Death Cab for Cutie, Deep Sea Diver) ensuring the sound stays rough around the edges yet razor precise.
