I feel the chills running through my veins
I feel the cold and the numbness spread
I’ve closed my eyes and clutched my hands
Cufflinks and tie, I’m ready to go
The acceptance of mortality is a quiet reckoning, a weight that settles like dusk on the soul. We build fragile rituals, threadbare and trembling, to shield ourselves from the inevitable. The hymns we sing, the hands we hold, the promises we mutter to the darkness—all are gestures to tame the void. Yet, in moments of solitude, we feel the stillness pressing against us, relentless and vast. What we prepare for is not the end, but the shape of our courage when it arrives, the grace in how we surrender, or fight, to leave behind something more than silence.
But that’s where Sweden’s Then Comes Silence comes in, emerging from the frost with Feel The Cold, a post-punk séance that stirs the senses and sets the stage for reflection and release. The lyrics to Feel The Cold explore a serene acceptance of mortality, depicting a character preparing for their final departure with calm resolve. Dressed in their finest, they embrace the inevitable, reflecting on leaving the past behind while heading toward the unknown. The imagery captures both the coldness of finality and the bittersweet beauty of moving on, with an air of quiet dignity.
“On my final journey, I aim to be prepared and look sharp, which is what this song is about,” states band frontman Alex Svenson. “The last photograph of David Bowie on the hospital roof, taken just days before his passing, has inspired me. He remained elegant until the end.”
Svenson’s deep, velvety voice commands attention, his basslines a steady undercurrent for Hugo Zombie’s angular, hypnotic guitar riffs. Jonas Fransson’s backbeat drives the track forward with relentless energy, all wrapped in shimmering retro synths that glint like frost on glass. The single steps into unfamiliar territory, evoking the mood of a lost gothic INXS track—an intriguing evolution while staying true to their shadow-kissed darkwave roots.
The accompanying black-and-white video feels like a fevered vision. Skeleton dance animations flicker and twitch, hallucinations bloom in the edges of the frame, and the veil between worlds grows thin in a haunting forest clearing. The perspective shifts startlingly, offering the gaze of a buried corpse, staring upward as life and death spiral together in an uncanny embrace.

Since their formation in 2012, Then Comes Silence has steadily carved their name into the cold stone of post-punk’s lineage, building their following through relentless touring and sharing stages with luminaries like A Place To Bury Strangers, The Chameleons, and Fields of the Nephilim. From festival fields to intimate halls across Europe, their sound—piercing yet patient, restless yet refined—has become a beacon for those drawn to the twilight tones of the genre.
Their latest announcement, a reissue of Boxed, breathes new life into a sought-after seven-song EP. This digital release spans a vivid range: two Spanish tracks that smolder with intensity, two instrumental pieces that explore eerie expanses, two remixes that reshape their vision, and an outtake from their 2022 album Hunger, dripping with intrigue. Originally part of a sold-out box set, this collection marks another step in the band’s enduring journey, both ambitious and assured.
The reissue comes at the conclusion of the band’s upcoming second US tour to promote Trickery, their magnificent seventh full-length album, featuring the singles Ride Or Die, Like A Hammer, and Stay Strange, which features Vision Video’s Dusty Gannon.
