Stella Rose Weaves Nightmarish Visions in her Video “Faithful” from Debut Album “Eyes of Glass”

The Big Apple’s music scene is about to become added an intriguing new bite to it with the announcement of Stella Rose’s debut LP, Eyes Of Glass, set to drop on May 19 via KRO Records. The NYC singer, poet, and musician has been making waves in the underground scene, and her first single of 2023, “Faithful,” is a testament to her creative prowess.

Paired with an evocative music video directed by Ben Howley, the dark metal-infused “Faithful” spotlights Stella’s passionate vocal prowess and profound lyricism, woven together with an eerily enchanting melody. Channeling her idol Patti Smith, Stella Rose masterfully fuses the unbridled energy of punk and the soulful depths of blues, showcasing her diverse and electrifying musical roots.

Stella Rose is a force to be reckoned with, with an arsenal of influential artists in her intellectual quiver. Her father, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan, and her mother, filmmaker Jennifer Sklias-Gahan, prepared her well for this life road –  Stella Rose has been making the rounds in NYC’s landmark clubs, dive bars, and coffee shops, forging her own path, writing her own story, and defining her own voice with determination and discipline. She is on a mission.

In an interview with Revolver, Rose revealed her multidimensional connection to music, saying, “Listening to music has always been more than sound to me. I think it is for most people, or it at least becomes that way after watching a film or music video. In a way, it can corrupt what you may have imagined before, making it hard to not visualize the footage that was given to you by the artist making it.”

This sentiment is exquisitely portrayed in Ben Howley’s cinematic video for “Faithful.” The nightmarish Lynchian visuals feature a dizzying motorcycle journey through desolate urban streets, punctuated by spine-chilling encounters with otherworldly beings. It’s unnerving, raw, and utterly captivating—much like Stella Rose herself. A new star is on the rise.

In November 2020, a serendipitous encounter between Stella Rose and producer Yves Rothman marked the genesis of a partnership that would sculpt the essence of Eyes of Glass. Rothman was instantly captivated by Stella’s lo-fi voice note poetry, and the pair spent a fortnight in the studio weaving their sonic tapestry. The outcome is a breathtaking anthology of tracks that have rightfully earned their spot in the hallowed halls of NYC’s musical legacy.

Stella Rose reflects on her creative process, saying, “At the end of the day, I’m a writer. It’s the only way for me to process my feelings, and when I write, I might not understand the meaning or gravity of my words, but at some point later, they’ll explain where I was and how I’ve grown. That’s how I make music: I collect things over time.”

The world got its first taste of Stella Rose’s undeniable talent last year with the release of “Muddled Man,” an electrifying and haunting single that garnered widespread praise. She followed up with the equally mesmerizing “Angel,” further solidifying the impact of her debut.

Stella Rose and her band, The Dead Language, are now poised to open for Depeche Mode at the iconic Madison Square Garden on April 14th. With her powerful vocals and poetic lyrics, Stella Rose cements her place as one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the NYC music scene.
