Salt Lake City’s Choir Boy, led by the heavenly vocals of charismatic frontman Adam Klopp, are heralding the release of their long-awaited second studio album Gathering Swans by sharing their video for their brilliant lead single “Complainer”.
This new song is fervent yet idyllic, weaving multi-layered sonic tapestries that are both stirring and breathtaking, all the while trading in their previous allusions to Jimmy Somerville and Bronski Beat for another Scottish music staple—this time being The Wake.
On “Complainer” Klopp comments:
“While many of our earlier songs serve as flowery lamentations of loss and grief, ‘Complainer’ snarkily examines the self-absorption of sadness.”
Musing on the absurdity of angst and sorrow, he continues:
“The opening line ‘Oh my life’ was something I privately uttered while stewing over daily anxieties. It became comical to me that I would express my self-pity like that, in earnest, when my struggles seemed so relatively tame.”
“Complainer” multi-tasks as a pop song and a reminder to keep my privilege in check,” Klopp states, in conclusion.

Previously this past November, Choir Boy had made their debut of the single version of “Nites Like This”, a song from their live repertoire that is also included within the track-listing of the new record.
Gathering Swans is set for release on May 8th via DAIS records.
The LP was recorded and produced by Bly Wallentine and mastered by Josh Bonati. The vinyl release is available to order in six stunning colorways, including a Clear Green Rough Trade exclusive, and the Oxblood/Cloud bundle that comes with Dais-exclusive tee designed by Matt Goik.
