Safe Mind’s Standing On Air is like catching a familiar scent that transports you to another place and time: pleasant, poignant, and just a bit peculiar. Musician and composer Augustus Muller, known widely for his integral role behind the synths with Boy Harsher, teams up once more with the enigmatic vocalist Cooper B. Handy, the eccentric creative force behind LUCY, The Taxidermist, and Club Casualties. Together, the duo strikes gold with a beautifully understated track that feels both reassuringly warm and intriguingly off-kilter.
Born from the fruitful sessions following their standout collaboration on Boy Harsher’s The Runner (Original Soundtrack), Walking On Air is a song steeped in sincerity. Muller’s production has a lightness – a delicate touch of nostalgia, even – while Handy’s emotive vocal delivery feels like a heartfelt pep talk from a good friend who’s seen a few things and knows it’s all going to work out. It’s a track that doesn’t shy away from vulnerability but uses it to gently guide you toward hope.
The beauty of Standing On Air lies in its graceful tension.
