You had a promise so sweet and smooth
I wish it were the truth
If I could steal the light that you’re shining on me
I won’t feel so lonely
Rohn-Lederman strikes like a storm rolling in from distant skies, a collision of cold steel and raw emotion. Emileigh Rohn, the Detroit siren of Chiasm, joins forces with Jean-Marc Lederman, the restless architect behind The Weathermen, Fad Gadget, and Front 242. Their debut Venus Chariot soared to the DAC summit in 2021, a shimmering prelude to the firebrand fury of RAGE! in 2022, and the bruised brilliance of Black and Bleu in 2024.
Now, Rohn-Lederman unfurls Steal The Light, a digital EP ablaze with reinvention. Here, Stefan Netschio of Beborn Beton reshapes the edges, Noemi Aurora of Helalyn Flowers drenches it in electric hues, Aiboforcen from Belgium bends its bones, while Mexican artist Sarmen Almond threads eerie elegance through its veins. These remixes go beyond reconstruction; they resurrect, refract, and reimagine, sending each note through a prism of invention where light is stolen, bent, and burned anew.
The song unfolds like a late-night confession, thick with longing, steeped in the ache of something once within reach, now slipping through unsteady hands. A voice waits in the dark for an answer that never comes, pacing the tightrope between hope and resignation. Love once burned bright, smooth as honey and just as sweet, but now the words feel weightless, the promises like paper caught in the wind. There’s a hunger to be seen, to be known, to become whatever it takes to bridge the widening gap; the stars above remain indifferent, blinking coldly over the restless heart below. Shimmering synths and a hypnotic beat anchor Rohn’s effervescent vocals.
The video drifts between the vast and the intimate, sweeping from the steadfast solitude of a lighthouse to the delicate flutter of a monarch’s wings. Nature presses on, untethered by human sorrow. The cosmos stretch outward, infinite and unbothered, while the burdens that bend our backs shrink in comparison. A silent lesson lingers in the flickering light and fleeting flight: this weight, this worry…it will pass. There are wider horizons to chase, skies deeper than sorrow, roads still untraveled. What looms large in the moment will someday seem small. The universe moves forward, and so must we.
