London’s shadowy venues have echoed with the urgent melodies conjured by this band of late. Who, you ask, brings this audacious symphony to life? It’s none other than Vincent Christ, flanked by his ensemble of musical disciples: Samuel Jones, Louis Clark, Connor Humphreys, and Matthew Hiscock.
Now, another miracle manifests itself in the guise of a new single and video vignette for “The Name of the Pearl.” The inscrutable Vincent Christ lets his raw emotions play upon a canvas of sound; a curious amalgamation of vibrant new wave, the intellectual beats of art-rock, and the rebellious undertones of post-punk. His lilting voice serves as the guiding star in this unnerving track.
The Name of the Pearl certainly echoes with familiar strains, reminiscent of Dave Vanian The Damned and the haunting rawness of Jeffrey Lee Pierce from The Gun Club. Yet, in this track, Vincent dials down the intensity in favour of mystery and a splash of danger.
“This is dark Vincent Christ music, with a video filmed in a Spanish desert landscape,” says the artist. “The visual conveys heat, pressure, secrecy.”
The clip’s VHS dreamscape, reminiscent of memories you can’t quite place, brings a slight shiver down your spine with memories sculpted from the deepest alcoves of unsettling dreams. This cryptic silhouette, set against desolate landscapes, evokes the aura of Dave Gahan in Anton Corbijn’s classic Enjoy the Silence video…yet with a more haunting, phantasmal twist. The spectral presence in sunglasses beckons, inviting one into the abyss of the unknown. What is next?

Vincent, a former hip-hop producer turned post-punk auteur, has proven prolific in the last 12 months, cranking out truly remarkable music on his own terms. As ever-changing as the Cheshire Cat’s grin, Vincent Christ’s musical output evolves with a mercurial charm.
