Portland’s Nite Hike Debuts Video for Dreamy Psychedelic Track “Nearest, Safest Star”

nearest, safest star away from ours

Portland, Oregon’s Nite Hike, the luminescent solo project from musician Christian Hurd, releases a new video for Nearest, Safest Star. The celestial track has a lovely psychedelic 70s vibe reminiscent of a long-lost Alan Parsons Project tune, infused with infectious disco-funk and soaring guitar. It’s got a killer hook, hypnotic vocals, and emits uniquely charming nostalgia, with a bittersweet message.  At once a flight of fancy and a slap of reality, Hurd’s lyrics weave a delicate balance of existence.

“This song is about the relationship between dream state and cosmic fantasy,” Hurd explains. “It’s also about escaping to a Goldilocks planet and realizing that the sun is still hot when you get there.”

Hurd makes his debut as a director here with a dreamy DIY video for the track. Hurd is depicted writing music in an isolated room, dreaming out the window, and creating – a document of the very dream state most artists in limbo experience at the moment. The long cross-fades are a throwback to the videos of the very early 1980s, reinforcing the oeuvre of the time-bending track.
