Birthed in 2022 by Rzeszów natives Bartek Szabat (ex-FALA) and Szymon Kaziród (Shock), Poczta Polska feels less like a band than a warped radio transmission from a country reshuffled by faulty recollection. The pair, multi-instrumentalists in constant rotation, trade duties the way night-shift clerks swap name tags, their songs buzzing with the woozy warmth of taped-over VHS childhoods and the plastic sheen of hair-salon signs honouring women no one recalls, all framed in prefab déjà vu.
They operate inside a half-real, half-mirage Poland: part 1980s housing estate, part temporal limbo. Each track meanders through phantom suburbs of red brick and vinyl cladding, borne on breezes scented with linoleum dust and derailed ambition. Listening feels like spotting a familiar window in a town you might have dreamed: the curtains never belonged to you, and the block may already be ash.
Poczta Polska reaches well beyond sound. Szabat and Kaziród, both 25, call it an “environment” – audio, image, memory glitch. Bartek’s analogue film stills give the project its visual skin; Szymon, studying architecture, scouts locations whose façades carry the eerie comfort of landmarks glimpsed from a coach at dusk. Concrete and cinema anchor their vision, with David Lynch’s mirror-logic hovering over every chord. Distance shaped the process, too: Bartek in Warsaw, Szymon in Milan, trading riffs and film snippets by email…each file another brick in a studio that never shared a postcode.
Z Różnych Powodów (For Various Reasons) lands as the duo’s keenest blade yet. Ragged guitar slashes above a clattering drum-machine, basslines vault through neon murk, and synth keys flash like emergency strip-lights down an endless corridor. The lyric circles inertia, logging every slide into indifference with poker-faced clarity. A post-Soviet chill lingers in the mix – think Ploho or Molchat Doma – but it’s wired to the nervy momentum of early-’80s Manchester, akin to Chameleons. Third in a four-part prelude to their debut, the song feels like a diary leaf torn free, another coded hint from a language still under construction.
