Plastic Ivy, aka the alias of Philadelphia-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Lira Marie Landes, has just released The Glass Horizon, a collection of six icy, minimal tracks. The album has been issued on cassette via Noir Age Publishing. In tandem with the release, we’re honored to premiere the video for “Never Caught In Amber,” directed by Xeno & Oaklander’s Liz Wendelbo.
The track is a fast and furious minimal synth workout, with a blisteringly fast BPM, deep bass arpeggiators firing on all cylinders, and high, playful synth leads driving the track alongside Landes’ vocal melodies. The remaining tracks on The Glass Horizon feel equally at home for fans of the genre, but succeed in showcasing Landes’ multiple talents and command of a plethora of analog instruments. The album is produced by Dan Shields of Speaking Parts, who will be touring with Plastic Ivy starting this week, kicking off with an appearance at Brooklyn’s Nothing Changes party at St. Vitus.
The music video for “Never Caught In Amber” is deeply inspired by Plastic Ivy’s energy and explores duality and transition through a series of still shots, mirror reflections, and live performances. Regarding the video, director Liz Wendelbo offers a few words about the process and inspiration:
“I shot it on Super 8 & Mini DV video tape, and was inspired by Plastic Ivy’s intense energy and really into the manic and jump-cut style of experimental films by Jonas Mekas, especially the films he made of Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali & Verushka.”
