Pittsburgh dark pop outfit Sommelier have unveiled their video for “Survivalist”, the title track from their brand new EP out this November. The song is an exercise in art-rock evoking the sensibilities of Ratatat, Magazine, Scott Walker, and Suede. This aural melange weaves its way languidly through crooning vocals and a jazzy rhythm section, that crescendos in peaks in valleys with guitars evoking that sweet spot in glamourous British-pop influenced alternative rock circa 1989 to 1994.
The video for the track is stark and simple, featuring the band performing the track in white studio space under subtle warm and cool lighting
Watch the video for “Survivalist” below:
Founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sommelier is an alternative pop combo centered on the songwriting team of guitarist Brian Ferrell and bassist/vocalist J. Trafford – a collaboration that marries edged melodies and technicolor tempos. Embroidered by the supporting guitar of Zach Coss and drummer Chris Isaacs, the sound of Sommelier is a tight brocade of matured moods and sophisticated introspection.
“Survivalist”, the band’s new EP, features studio cuts of the recent live favorite title track, plus new songs “It’s Nature,” and “Idiot” – and a full-band recording of the previous-released ‘quarantine track,’ “My Hypocrisy.”
The full EP is out on November 16th, 2021
