Philadelphia Post-Punk Heartbreakers Wax Jaw Make Their Debut With “Checking Me Out”

Hailing from Philadelphia, Wax Jaw is a groundbreaking, trans-fronted band that artfully blends new wave, post-punk, and surf rock into a unique palette of aural colors. With their captivating six-track EP set for release this coming September, Wax Jaw is the uncompromising ensemble of indie pop heartbreakers you certainly should keep an eye on!

The band sprouted from the sun-kissed daydreams and burgeoning camaraderie between Greg Blanc (on bass) and Sean Vannata (on guitar) in the warm June of 2022. Their shared aspiration was to pen buoyant, energetic anthems capable of bringing even the most stoic audience member to life during their performances. With this vision at the forefront, the lineup expanded, one carefully selected member at a time, until the quintet reached its ultimate composition in January 2023.

From the onset, Wax Jaw has swiftly struck a chord in the pulsating hearts of Philadelphia’s audio enthusiasts. Their lively stage charisma, nostalgia-infused aesthetics, and spirited performances have seen them captivating local audiences. Recent triumphs include consecutive sold-out gigs at Silk City and PhilaMOCA, sharing the spotlight with renowned acts such as Wine Lips and Acid Dad.

They’re now on the brink of launching their debut single, “Checking Me Out.” The vibrant bass rhythm, soaring guitar solos, and melodic vocals create a euphonic track sure to lure New Wave aficionados into surrendering to the rhythm, joining in a dance or two, and singing along in retro-pop revelry. Echoes of Berlin, the Go-Go’s, and The Breeders resound in their sound, coupled with the sky-bound, shoegaze-tinged guitars reminiscent of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. The track is an utter joy to the ears, embodying the essence of a quintessential summer anthem with its vibrantly infectious energy.
