Darkness is all that’s underneath
Two hearts could never lose
I’m not thinking of something
This story is ending
Korine, the Philadelphia duo of Morgy Ramone and Trey Frye, stitches silver threads of longing into melodies built for the restless. Their sound crackles with the static of new-wave nostalgia hums with the urgency of punk and pulses with the glow of modern pop. Each song shines like neon on rain-slick pavement, anthems for hearts caught between yesterday’s ghosts and tomorrow’s promises.
There’s a tension with their latest release, Twist The Knife, a push and pull; ecstasy edged with ache, euphoria laced with lament. The synths shimmer, the beats beckon, the vocals whisper and wail, summoning those who live for nights that never quite end and mornings that always come too soon. Think New Order cutting through cold city air, Cold Cave crooning to the unclaimed hours, Choir Boy serenading strangers beneath flickering streetlights. This is music for those who chase something just out of reach, who dance in the glow of what might have been.
The lyrics writhe in restlessness, torn between what was and what cannot be undone. Regret coils tight, the past presses in, and the future flickers dimly at best. The speaker walks the thin edge between escape and surrender, haunted by the weight of old mistakes, shaken by the fear of what lies ahead. The heartache lingers, heavy as lead, sharp as steel—love reduced to a slow, deliberate wound, a final kiss delivered like a whispered curse. Hope clings to the corners, a fragile thread, but resignation looms, a quiet acceptance that the ending has already begun.
“This song explores the freedom of giving up,” says the band. “Letting go of all attachments and looking at the world for how it is. Embracing insignificance and personal truth like an impenetrable armour. The pain of life is of no consequence to someone who’s accepted their fate.”
Johnny “Dynamite” Morisi captures this ache with a grainy, time-warped vision, a video drenched in the haze of the past. A fisheye lens bends the frame, warping time and space, while the duo performs with a cool detachment that belies the fire beneath. The rawness of their delivery collides with the stillness of their stance—emotion contained, yet too fierce to be ignored.
