Philadelphia deathrockers Executioner’s Mask return from the blue-lit grotto of despair with an epic, plodding dirge: the hypnotic “Things Fall Apart”, off their forthcoming LP, Winterlong.
Kennedy Ashlyn of SRSQ joins in the chorus with her haunting vocals, evoking an incantation spell of explosive sound; reminding listeners of Swans, Current 93, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and AFI. The song begins with an insistent marching beat, surrounded by eerie synths and mournful guitar, building a crescendo for the deep, melancholy mix of Gambit’s baritone with Ashlyn’s gorgeous soprano. It’s pure, undistilled gothic rock at its unsettling core.

Executioner’s Mask is the brainchild of metal vocalist Jay Gambit (Crowhurst), Ryan Wilson (Howling Void), and Craig Mickle (LACE, Cop Warmth). Executioner’s Mask released their solemn demo True Blue in 2018. Two years later, the band released their raw, desperate debut with Profound Lore Records, Despair Anthems. The band continues their reign with Winterlong, featuring production from Jeff Zeigler (The War On Drugs) and Ryan Schwabe (Oneohtrix Point Never).
With kaleidoscopic ambition, the band announces forthcoming remixes from Winterlong with an ensemble cast featuring members of Deafheaven, Full Of Hell, No Joy, Xiu Xiu, and The Armed. The first of the Winterlong re-mix albums will be released as a bonus disc that will come with the CD release of Winterlong mastered by Angel Marcloid (aka Fire-Toolz).
Winterlong is out on CD/LP/Digital from Profound Lore Records on June 17th, 2022.
