Peter Hook & The Light have announced their return to the US during the autumn of 2019 where they will play New Order’s 1989 album Technique and 1993 album Republic in full, plus what has been mysteriously billed as being “other tracks from the era” along with an opening set of Joy Division material.
Dates during the North American tour include concerts in Philadelphia, NYC, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, L.A., Austin, and Atlanta.
Tickets go on sale Friday, November 9th.
1989’s Technique, their final album released on Factory Records, was recorded in Ibiza is considered to be New Order’s best electronic music records, incorporating Balearic beat and acid house elements reflective of the burgeoning Madchester and rave scenes, while still maintaining strong post-punk a rock elements.
Peter Hook has remarked that the record was “an epic power struggle between the sequencers and me. I was resisting it valiantly, because I still wanted us to be a rock band.”
1993’s Republic was a record fraught with conflict during its production that ultimately led to New Order being broken up until their reformation in 1998. Despite this, the album’s single “Regret” is one of the band’s finest moments, as is Peter Hook’s trademark bass playing on the track.
Around the time that New Order released Technique, Hook formed the band Revenge, which put out one album in 1990 called One True Passion.
After the demise of Revenge in 1995 while trying to record a second album, Peter Hook formed the band Monaco from the ashes of Revenge, taking along vocalist and guitarist David Potts along with him. Monaco would go to to record the 1997 hit single “What Do You Want From Me?”
For Peter Hook’s New Order Material, David Potts is currently the guitarist and vocalist, as Brooklyn Vegan notes, it could be possible that we will hear material from Monaco, or other surprises during this tour.
In the meantime, from November up until May 2019 Peter Hook & The Light will be performing European and UK dates on their Substance tour.
