Peter Hook joins Smashing Pumpkins Onstage for Performance of Joy Division’s “No Love Lost”

The Smashing Pumpkins are no strangers to covering Joy Division. In fact, Billy Corgan, the lead singer of the Pumpkins, has even toured with New Order as an additional guitarist, so it’s fair to say that he’s more than a little familiar with the legendary Manchester post-punk band’s work.

On Saturday night, The Smashing Pumpkins invited Peter Hook, who was the bassist for Joy Division and New Order, to perform with them at the World is a Vampire Festival in Mexico City. This wasn’t a complete surprise since Hook was also performing at the festival with his band, The Light, and Hook’s son Jack Bates happens to be the Pumpkins’ touring bassist.

With both Hook and Bates on board, the Pumpkins delivered a unique rendition of “No Love Lost,” a track from Joy Division’s influential 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living.

Watch below:

The Pumpkins are now gearing up for the Australian leg of The World is Vampire tour, where they’ll be joined by alt-rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction for ten shows down under.
